Leadership at a supervisor´s level is a unique task to achieve.

Most of the times supervisors were not trained to be leaders, they are faced with the responsibility of directing past peers, getting results through others, changing habits, most of the time feeling uncomfortable among long time supervisors and reporting directly to a manager.

They tend to confuse leadership with giving orders and it is not uncommon to find supervisors lowering others self esteem as they speak and on the other hand trying hard to be fair.

Because they lack specific administrative best practices like sharing information regarding rules, politics and agendas on time, some contributors may sense favoritism.

Supervisor’s leadership can be developed. Training is a key but it is not enough. Managers should be able to mentor and coach them in specific areas. And group leaders should be prepared to work under a new leadership style. Both ends assure continuity.

We have been designing process to achieve leadership in over 50 companies in the past 20 years. It is a very interesting work especially because we craft it together with our clients.
